CanAm’s indoor air quality investigation services are designed to help maintain optimal indoor environmental quality and employee safety and comfort within office environments.

Buildings exist to protect people from the elements and to otherwise support human activity. Buildings should not make people sick, cause them discomfort, or otherwise inhibit their ability to perform. How effectively your building functions to support its occupants, and how efficiently the building operates to keep costs manageable is a measure of the building’s performance.

Indoor air quality is a major business concern too.
Studies conducted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and others, show that indoor environments can contain concentrations of pollutants that are higher than concentrations found outdoors. An EPA Report to Congress concluded that improved indoor air quality can result in higher productivity and fewer lost work days. EPA estimates that poor indoor air may cost the nation tens of billions of dollars each year in lost productivity and medical care.

What is Indoor Environmental Quality Management?

The purpose of Indoor Environmental Quality Management is to maintain and improve standards of health and comfort within indoor environments such as the workplace. CanAm Environmental Safety, Inc. carries out inspections, testing, and long term monitoring to provide organizations with appropriate recommendations and solutions. Specific issues that can be covered include air quality and odors, microbes including Legionnaire’s disease, fibers, mold, and radon.

What are the key benefits?

Allow organizations to anticipate and control potential risks;

Help build and maintain good reputation;

Optimize costs by preventing rather than curing problems and avoiding litigation;

Help maintain current workforce productivity.

Our Approach

CanAm Environmental Safety, Inc. provides a complete range of services tailored to each client’s specific needs, including investigating environmental concerns, sick building syndrome and building-related illness complaints, as well as providing a wide variety of proactive Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) services.

With the absence of federal regulations for most IEQ concerns, CanAm Environmental Safety’s services follow the intent of the USEPA, World Health Organization (WHO), as well as the consensus guidelines and protocols of professional organizations, such as the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, Inc. (ASHRAE), the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH), ASTM, and others.

When initially responding to an IEQ concern, CanAm Environmental Safety, Inc. will listen to understand the specific building conditions prompting our services. We then ask what objectives are trying to be met by having an IEQ evaluation, and determine which evaluation techniques can best meet the objectives.

CanAm Environmental Safety, Inc. will develop an informal, initial hypothesis of what we believe may be related to the IEQ issues and design an applicable project Scope of Work.
